The ruler tool can be used to add a measurement to any 2D axes. Simply select the tool and add a ruler.
Note that the ruler will show a measurement relevant to the plane. If your plane does not have a 1:1 aspect ratio, horizontal and vertical distances will not be the same length on-screen, as shown above.
